Our Mission: Empowering Truth Through Technology
The DIMAS project is a research initiative based at the University of Malta, dedicated to developing a sophisticated web suite of AI-powered tools. We aim to transform how news is consumed by providing data-driven insights that foster critical thinking and media accountability.
Our Purpose
To promote a more informed and discerning society by delivering tools that support factual, reliable, and contextually accurate media analysis. We are committed to enhancing transparency in journalism and empowering users — whether professionals or the public — to navigate news content with confidence, clarity, and critical insight.
Support Journalistic Integrity
Provide journalists with AI tools that streamline research, uncover bias, and enhance the accuracy and depth of reporting.
Facilitate Public Media Literacy
Empower the general public to verify news, identify media framing, and engage with complex information through simplified AI summaries.
Ensure Ethical AI Standards
Develop all tools within a rigorous ethical framework, ensuring GDPR compliance and algorithmic transparency.
Enhance Data Accessibility
Enable semantic exploration of over 500,000 news articles, making decades of Maltese media history searchable and actionable.
Our Story
Originating from the Department of Artificial Intelligence at the University of Malta, DIMAS was born out of the need to address the challenges of the modern digital news landscape. Supported by Xjenza Malta and the Digital Technologies Programme, our team recognised that traditional search and analysis methods were insufficient for the scale of today's media.

By integrating different AI news analysis tools within one platform, we aim to bridge the gap between massive datasets and human understanding. From tracking gender representation and creating a chatbot with local sources, DIMAS represents the next step in data-informed journalism for Malta.
